Individual Coverage
Here are some tips to help you obtain and shop for health
insurance:
- Rates for insurance are determined by your age and your zip
code of residence. No matter what site you go through, including
the carriers themselves, the rate for a particular plan will be
the same.
- Carriers do not have to accept an applicant due to
pre-existing conditions such as ongoing treatments and expensive
drugs etc.
- Generally speaking the higher the deductible the lower your
premium. Read the outline of coverage for the plan you want
before you apply.
- Plans that cover office visits cost more than plans that do
not. Plans that cover maternity cost more than plans that do
not.
- Just because you fill out an application does not mean you
are covered. Wait until you are notified of approval before
using a plan.
- Look at the big picture when acquiring insurance- example-
one day in the hospital for minor back surgery is $50,000. We
know as one of us had that surgery!
One of the most popular types of plans today are HSA compatible
plans which allow you to obtain a tax deduction up to the amount of
the deductible. Click on HSA Plans
